June 29, 2008, Occupied With the Word

[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired February 24, 2008]
[Acts 18:1-22] You've probably heard the old saying, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop", and we can look at our own lives and see clearly how empty time is so easily filled with temptation. It stands to reason then that the opposite would also be true.  That hands, hearts, and minds engaged in faithfulness and obedience to Christ would be the Lord's workshop. A close look at Paul's experience, revealed in Acts 18, points in that direction.

June 22, 2008, Turning Worlds Upside Down [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired February 17, 2008]
[Acts 17:1-34] Let's get this straight, the teachings of Jesus are not merely a collection of good ideas for living, nor merely a guidebook for living peacefully with one another. The Gospel of Jesus Christ, when proclaimed and lived, turns the world - and our individual lives, completely upside down.

June 15, 2008 This Thing Called Corporate Worship
[Hebrews 12:18-29] We can worship God anywhere, anytime. A large building with a pointed steeple is not necessary.  And we can worship alone.  Yet, in the book of Hebrews, God reveals to us that coming together as a body of believers is critically important.

June 8, 2008
The Heart Of Worship
[Psalm 96] You may not think of yourself as a born singer or musician, but you are a natural born worshiper. It is instinctive and a part of our very makeup to respond to what we value, and that's ultimately what worship is.

June 1, 2008 The 29th Chapter of Acts
[Acts 28:17-31] The book of Acts is one of the most compelling of the entire New Testament. Chronicling the extraordinary events in the earliest days of the church, it is filled with true, edge of your seat stories. What's most extraordinary, is that the story of Acts doesn't end with chapter 28 verse 31.  It continues...with us.

May 25, 2008, Shipwrecked But Not Sunk

[Acts 28:1-16] Storms at sea and shipwrecks have been used for centuries by storytellers as a metaphor for the trouble of life.  In the book of Acts we find this metaphor played out both literally and figuratively in the life of the Apostle Paul, with critical lessons for the Christian.

May 18, 2008 Hope in a Hopeless World

[Acts 25:23-26:32] Unexpected trouble. The loss of a job,  the death of a loved one, the abandonment of a spouse. These are daily occurrences in the world we live in. And for those who have experienced this kind of crisis, there are no easy answers.  It can even lead us to question whether God is present at all. God is present.  Perhaps never more than in the midst of our most troubling circumstances.  What's more, no amount of trouble in this world can stop the advance of His word and redeeming work in the world.

May 11, 2008  The

Alien Love of the Christian

[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired February 11, 2007]
[1 Peter 1:22-2:3] Love hurts. These words appear to be a contridiction in terms, and they should be. But let's face it, in this world, if we seek to freely GIVE love, we can expect to experience pain.
[Special music "This is Love" by Steve Bell, from the recording Beyond a Shadow]

May 4, 2008 With Christ Before Our Enemies

[Acts 21:1-3] What is the root of true courage? That question that has been explored for centuries, and there have been many answers. Christians are called to do things that require courage. Sharing the Gospel, for instance, involves risk.  Whether the risk is social embarrassment or physical safety, courage is required. Thankfully, the foundation for that kind of courage is provided in something else we are called to: dying to self.

April 27, 2008, Turning Worlds Upside Down

[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired February 17, 2008]
[Acts 17:1-34] Let's get this straight, the teachings of Jesus are not merely a collection of good ideas for living, nor merely a guidebook for living peacefully with one another. April 20, 2008 When God Comes to Prison

[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired February 10, 2008]
[Philippians 16:16-40] It's an extraordinary story.  Paul is in prison unjustly, and God sends an earthquake, opening the way of escape. But Paul doesn't leave, and therein lies the real story.

April 13, 2008 Caring For God's Church

[Acts 20:17-38] There are people in positions of leadership, and then there are leaders.  In the church, leaders are commanded to do something far more challenging than simply making decisions and telling others what to do.  Deacons and elders are commanded to be servant-leaders.  Like Jesus, they are commanded serve those they are charged to lead.

April 6, 2008 I Will Follow Jesus
[Luke 9:57-62] It's the most important decision we will ever make - and the hardest to live out.  It ultimately costs us everything. To follow Jesus requires giving all that we have.  Yet the rewards of following him so far outstrech the cost, it is beyond all acounting.

March 30, 2008
Something New

[Matthew 28:1-20] "It will change your life!" Isn't it interesting that this phrase is used so often? Whether intended or not, the universal use of this phrase points to two undeniable truths; that our lives are not OK as they are, and that we desperately want something better.  As CS Lewis once said, "Thirst is for water", that desire for change is there because we weren't meant to be the sinful people we currently are. Because of what Christ has done, we now have the opportunity for the very change we long for.

March 23, 2008 A King Like No Other

[Luke 19:28 - 40] There aren't many world leaders today who have the kind of unquestioned power that kings did during the time of the New Testiment, and the few who do, often leave a path of destruction in their wake. Those who follow Jesus learn quickly that he is a King like no other, one who uses his power to bring true and lasting peace.

March 16, 2008 Spiritual Backlash

[Acts 19:21 - 21:1] If you have been a follower of Christ for any length of time you've likely experienced spiritual backlash; the way that progress made by the Holy Spirit is often followed by an opposite reaction, both in our individual lives, and the world around us. The question is, when this happens, what do we do?

March 9, 2008, Using Jesus or Knowing Jesus

[Acts 19:8-20] It's interesting to note that the 12 step programs that are so heavily depended on by those working in the secular recovery field include as a crucial step the acknowledgment of, and the need for help from, God.  Perhaps even more interesting, is that among those promoting the use of these programs are professed atheists and agnostics. In a similar way, there were those in the time of the new testament who made use of the power of Christ's name, without embracing Him themselves.

March 2, 2008 The Missing Ingredient

[Acts 18:23-19:10] Have you ever been given an assignment, but not given the means to accomplish it?  That can be an incredibly frustrating circumstance.  Thankfully, this is not true of faith in Christ. Jesus gives us clear instructions about what we should do as His followers, but we're not left to accomplish His will on our own. We're given the Holy Spirit.

February 3, 2008 Resident Aliens

[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired January 28, 2007]
[1 Peter 1:13-23] If we are to follow Christ we must face the fact that we will not receive the applause of the world. We can expect to be treated as resident aliens. But this doesn't mean we're alone, on the contrary, walking with us, supporting and helping us is he who has overcome the world.

January 27, 2008 Following the Holy Spirit

Here in the 21st century, we often pride ourselves on our intellectual and technilogical sophistication. Even in the church, we invest heavily in media and point to how that investment allows us to create a presentation that rivals the best that the entertainment industry has to offer.  Yet, without the leading and influence of the Holy Spirit, our efforts are worth no more than silence.

January 20, 2008 Division Among Believers
[Acts 15:36-16:5] Conflict.  We all experience it. And what about conflict in the church?  That's always going to be damaging...isn't it?  In the book of Acts were given an example of a conflict between Paul and Barnabus that did not result in damage , but rather served to bear witness to the depth of their commitment to Christ, and to one another.

January 13, 2008
Christians With a Difference
[Acts 15 1-11] Is the Gospel really for everyone? We all can think of people who, if they showed up in our church on Sunday, would seem to us very much out of place. This is much like the feeling the early believers had when confronted with the prospect of the gospel applying to gentiles as well as jews

January 6, 2008 Resolutions of the Father for His Children

[John 15 1:17] Taking stock.  It's both necessary and difficult, especially with regard to our spiritual maturity.  We are often our own worst critic, both because we can be too unforgiving toward ourselves, and because we can often turn a blind eye to those things that need the most attention.  Thankfully Christ is working constantly in our lives to help us to see what we otherwise couldn't.

December 30, 2007 The Glory of the Lord Has Come
[Isaiah 60:1-12] The Glory of God, his righteousness, his profound love for us, His LIFE rolls forward every moment of every day, unstoppable, transforming lives.  How can we do other than to stan in awe, and give ourselves to Him and his work completely?

December 23, 2007 Prepared for Christmas - and More
[Luke 1:5-25] The word Holiday evokes images of leisure, recreation...play.  For many of us, Christmas is NOT synonymous with Holiday.  In fact, Christmas for many means work work and more work.  An enormous amount of preparation goes into Christmas, more than any other day. And even though the work of decorating, baking and buying gifts can bear fruit in helping to make Christmas enjoyable, there is another kind of preparation that bears fruit for all eternity.

December 16, 2007 The Advent Heart of God

[Acts 14] It is a truly extraordinary story. The creator of the universe, perfectly Holy, makes Himself human, living among, loving, and ultimately saving the people he created. This is the essence of Advent, the time when we consider the profound truth of the incarnation. God not only becoming human, but taking on the suffering of others.  In the book of Acts, we're given the opportunity to see how God desires for us to walk with him in this humble way, giving ourselves completely, for the advancement of His Kingdom. Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

December 9, 2007 To the Ends of the Earth
[Acts 13]What is the measure of an authentic church?  If by "authentic" we mean a church that truly does what Jesus Christ established the church to do, then the we would do well to take a close look at the church at Antioch.

Nothings and the Power of God

[Acts 12] Look around you. We live in a troubled world.  And it's hard not to think at times that the power of evil is too much to overcome.  But the truth is, ultimately Christ will prevail - and all that is evil will perish.  Good WILL triumph over evil. It really will. Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

November 25, 2007 Encountering Christ on the Road
[Acts 9:1-31]Sometimes the walls between us seem impossible to overcome. Social status  race, cultural background, politics; despite our best intentions, we rarely manage to bridge the gap to those outside our own circle.  That's exactly the scenario we're faced with in Chapter 9 of the book of acts, where we not only to see clearly God's desire in this respect, but the lengths he'll go to to accomplish it.
Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

November 18, 2007 Two Conversions for Gospel Advance

[Acts 10] Many of us know stories of extraordinary or unexpected conversions.  People who were thought to be hopeless.  The story of the apostle Paul is one of the most extraordinary of them all, it is evidence and encouragement to us that no one is beyond the reach of Christ. Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

November 11, 2007 Listening Evangelism
[Acts 8:26-40] It's important to be a good listener.  Listening is a critical part of good communication.  And what is true for relationships is also true in sharing the good news of the Gospel.  First...listen.
Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suit

November 4, 2007 Sacrifice & Forgivness
[Acts 7:51-8:4] Where does God dwell?  Here on the earth, what place or places does he inhabit?  Is there a particular place we must protect at all cost, lest we lose His presence?

Buying Power
[Acts 8:1-25] We've all heard the familiar cliche' "the best things in life are free".  Though that's true in many ways, there is one thing we all desperately need that is not free, yet no amount of money can buy.

We Believe - The Holy Spirit - Our Advantage
[Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired November 26, 2006]
[John 16:4-15] We can certainly imagine, that having been through the pain and loss of Jesus' death on the cross, and the unimaginable joy of discovering that he was alive again, the disciples would not be eager for Christ to leave. Yet, when Christ left his disciples to ascend into heaven, he promised to leave them the Holy Spirit.

October 14, 2007, Service for Gospel Advance
[Acts 6:1-7] It's easy to get distracted isn't it?  When faced with a large and daunting responsibility, we can sometimes long for any escape, and distractions become welcome.  What's true for us individually is true for the church as well.  And the price of that distraction is high.

Living Before the Lord
[Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-37; 5:12-42] It's a clear and undeniable fact, Christian or not, most of us live as though God is not present.  We may say we believe God exists, that he loves us and is in control of our lives, but when push comes to shove our actions speak louder than our words and or actions more frequently say WE are in control.
Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

September 30, 2007, Holding Lightly This World

[Acts 5:17-42] "You can't take it with you".  That well worn phrase of course refers to the fact that all material things will be left behind at the moment of death.  That's true, but for those of us who have chosen to follow Christ, we're called to hold lightly to this material world - while we're here.
Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

September 23, 2007, We Believe - Christ Ascending and Returning [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired November 12, 2006] [Matthew 24:36-51] You may have seen the bumper sticker that says, Jesus is coming, look busy! Well, Jesus IS coming - so what does that mean for us? Today, tomorrow, and everyday till he arrives?

The Crazy Prayer for Gospel Advance

[Acts 4:1-31] We live in a society where we are free to speak openly about anything we like. This is a blessing.  Yet it is considered socially unacceptable to talk about Jesus Christ in anything exept a private or overtly religious setting.  So, in order to be polite, we don't. But despite our silence, the world's desperate need for Christ grows daily.

Times of Refreshing

[Acts 3:1-26] As we read the New Testiment, particularly the book of Acts, we are perhaps most impressed by the obvious outward manifestations of God's power, demonstrated for everyone to see.  Yet this is only one of many ways the Holy Spirit moves. Another work of the Holy Spirit is refreshing.
Special Music During This Broadcast: Michael Card & John Michael Talbot - Advent Suite

September 2, 2007 Come Holy Spirit
[Acts 2:14-24, 36-41] When Jesus explained to the disciples that he would be leaving them, they were understandably distraught. After all, their track record of faithfulness during the times he was not present with them was not so great. But Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to help them, and when the spirit came, the impact was powerful.

August 26, 2007
Acts 1-8 People
[Acts 1:1-11] We who have pledged ourselves to Jesus Christ, have a clear calling.  We are to continue the work that Christ started in the world.  This is obviously a high calling, one that is desperately needed in this world.  But there's one problem - and it's a big one - we aren't Jesus.  For this reason, God has given us the Holy Spirit...and THAT is how we are able to do the work of Christ in this world.

The Church With an Open Door
[Revelation 3:7-13] It's undeniable: Our world is in crisis. Yet in the midst of this crisis God is working, every day, every minute, healing, redeeming. And he is opening doors for us to participate in this work.

We Believe - The Ressurection [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired November 5, 2006]
[John 20:1-21] For every living human being, there is one fearful event that we are powerless to stop. Death. Despite the marshalling of centries of study and technilogical development, death is as much a certainty today as it was 2000 years ago. And this is the reason that Christ's ressurection is central to the Gospel. Embodied in this event is God's ultimate authority over all. Even death. We Believe - Christ Suffered [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired October 29, 2006]
[Hebrews 2:5-18] Looking back on his experience in Vietnam, A veteran of one of that war's most horrific battles reflected that the bond he shares with those who were with him is deeper than any he's ever known.  There's something about shared suffering that draws us to one another like nothing else. It is in this context that we can begin to grasp fully the impact of Christ's suffering here on earth. Because of His suffering, Jesus is not only a perfect savior, but he is a perfect friend & brother. Special Music During This Broadcast: Rich Mullins, Creed

We Believe - God's Son Our Lord [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired October 22, 2006]
[Luke 9:28-36] I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord. These words are known throughout the church as the Apostles' creed. Summarizing the essential, foundational doctrines of the church, they have served as a unifying statement for centuries.  Pastor Richard White continues the series "We Believe" illuminating the Apostle's Creed with a message from the book of Luke titled: "God's Son Our Lord".

Lukewarm for Jesus
[Revelation 3:14-22] In the culture we live in, especially in the popular media, the "middle ground" is where we're all encouraged to be.  Never mind that most of the leaders we revere completely ignored the middle ground, today it's best not to rock the boat.   Jesus addresses this issue directly in His words to the church at Laodicia from the book of Revelation

The Church of the Living Dead
[Revelation 3:1-6] One of the hallmarks of human depravity is our propensity toward self deception.  It's common for us to move through life completely oblivious to our own areas of weakness.  This was the case for a church Jesus addresses in the book of Revelation called Sardis. The Mixed Church
[Revelation 2:18-29] It is the great irony of our age.  From the time we wake till the time we sleep, we all live, move and depend on absolutes.  We're careful as we drive because if we hit something with the car, we'll absolutely damage it.  We're careful what we eat because if we eat something poisonous we'll absolutely get sick.  Yet, fundamental to the culture we live in, is the idea that there is no absolute truth, that what's true for you might not be true for me.  Well, this problem isn't a new one.  In fact it was this very kind of thinking that led to trouble for the church Jesus addresses in the book of Revelation named Thyatira.

We Believe - Creator [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired October 15, 2006]
[Isaiah 45:1-13] The Heavens declare the glory of God. Indeed, we don't have to look far to see how extraordinary and good God's creation is. Yet, even as we observe this, we must acknowledge the elephant standing in the middle of the room; that in the midst of this good creation, evil exists - and not only exists - but appears to prosper. It begs the question, where is God in this, and what is he doing? Special Music During This Broadcast: Rich Mullins, Creed

We Believe - God The Father Almighty [Repeat Broadcast -Originally Aired October 8, 2006]
[John 5:19-26] If someone were to refer to you, and they merely used the word "human", it would be accurate, but it wouldn't tell us much would it? If we added the word, "man" or "woman", it would tell us more, but not nearly as much as if we added, sister, brother, mother, or friend. In the same way, the word God doesn't tell us much about the creater of the universe. But if we use the word He used to describe himself, we understand something critical about who He is, and how He relates to us.

The Church Near Satan's Throne
[Revelation 2:12-17] Would you want to live in Satan's neighborhood?  Well unfortunately, you do.  We all do. Satan may not own the house we live in, but he lives here too, and he's working constantly to draw us away from Christ.

The Church Threatened With Death
[Revelation 2:8-11] Jesus made it clear: those who follow him can expect persecution - even death.  And though that is not now our experience here in the United States, it is happening for many, all around the world, even this every minute.  But no matter what our level of persecution, we're given a clear and unmistakable directive; be faithful.

Our First Love
[Revelation 2:1-7] Is it possible for a church to be right about theology, zealous about knowing and teaching the Word, and truly in every measurable way, on fire for the Gospel - and - out of touch with Jesus?  It is.  And Jesus Himself explains how in the book of Revelation.

Christ Among Us
[Revelation 1:9-20] We miss a lot.  Let's face it, it's possible to go through an entire day taking no notice of the world and people around us.  Sometimes it's busyness...sometimes, perhaps, it's numbness.  Whatever it is, it often causes us to miss what is most extraordinary, and dwells among us every moment of every day.  Jesus Christ.

Working Out Your Salvation [Repeat Broadcast -Originally Aired March 19, 2006 ]
[Phillipians 2:12-18] Websters dictionary defines the word paradox as a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true.  To walk with Christ is to live in paradox . It is not easy. The apostle Paul recognizes this when he writes: work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

Grace for the Humble - Series Conclusion
[1 Peter 5:5-14] The amount of Grace available to us is immeasurable.  And God's desire is to pour it out for us in immeasurable fashion.  Yet as immense as this Grace is, and as strong as God's desire is to give it, there is one thing that can keep us from experiencing this Grace in our lives.  Pride.

Leadership for Troubled Times

[1 Peter 5 1-6] The role of elder is a crucial one in the church, and in the book of Peter we find clear instructions for those called to this task.  Rule number one: Know where you are going, and who YOU are following.  The answer is always the same...Christ.

Living As Resurrection People [Repeat Broadcast - Originally Aired 7-30-2006]
[1st Corinthians 15] It is of enormous significence that Jesus Christ truly lived and walked on this earth. It is of enormous significance that Jesus spoke into history the truth of God, and it was of profound significence that Jesus, having lived a sinless life, was crucified. But there is one singular event - a factual, historical event that makes all the difference.

April15, 2007
"This Changes Everything"
[Luke 24:36-48] The central symbol of Christianity in the world today is the cross.  The symbol of Christ's death as a sacrifice for our sin.  Yet, the event in Christ's life that truly makes all the difference is this: Christ died; completely - and then came back to life again.  He is alive today, right now.  And that changes everything.

"Not The King We Were Expecting"
[Matthew 21:1-17]
It's a frequent experience here on earth to have people or events fail to meet our expectations.  And most of the time, it's a big disappointment. When the messiah came, he was not what those who were waiting for him expected, and at least at first, he was a big disappointment. In the end however, Jesus the Messiah exceeds all expectations.

"Rejoicing in the Fire"

[1 Peter 4:12-19] To follow Christ is to share in his suffering. Suffering is a part of the path for every single believer. It's not just unavoidable, it's essential - and - a cause for rejoicing.

"Living a Decided Life"
[1 Peter 4:1-11] Would you use a hammer, to type a letter? What about using your watch to drive a nail? Unless you intended to make a mess, probably not.  What about you? Your body, your life. What were you made for? The answer to this question should make all the difference in the choices we make, and how we conduct ourselves daily.

"Resetting your heart in Hope"
[1 Peter 3:8-22] Murphy's law. That old adage that "anything that can go wrong, will". We chuckle at that ironic phrase, partly, because it seems so true. Yet, for the believer, ultimately, the opposite is true. Anything that can be redeemed...will.

"Resident Aliens and Marriage"
[1 Peter 3:1-7] There is perhaps no area of life where followers of Christ are more alien, more out of step with this world, than in the way they are called to conduct themselves in marriage.
